Addresses and Sales History in Microsoft Dynamics GP

As sales orders are posted, the original documents are moved to history, if history is turned on. When the entire sales transaction is complete, history maintains a complete record of the transaction exactly as it occurred. Right? Perhaps not.  When the history records are created, they contain a reference to the customer's primary billing address. The actual billing address is NOT stored in history. Should the customer's billing address be changed, history reprints of the sales documents will show the new addresses.  The shipping address is a bit different. Yes, a reference to the Ship-To address stored in the customer tables is stored with the documents and the current Ship-To address can be changed. However, the actual shipping address data is also written to the sales transaction records.  While customers can and do move to new addresses, the delivery address of a historical document is an important fact to be preserved. If packages need to be tracked, the original ship-to address used in the delivery must be available. Also, sales taxes are determined by the ship-to point in most US states. Should an audit occur, it is important to know exactly where delivery occurred.
